Ontario's electricity subsidy-Apply Now!
January 24,2025

To reduce electricity costs for low-income households, Ontario, Canada, has implemented the Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP). The OESP provides monthly electricity bill reductions to eligible customers based on household income and the number of household members. The discount is directly applied to the electricity bill.

One significant advantage of the OESP is that there is no specific application deadline. The earlier you apply, the sooner you can start benefiting from the monthly bill credit.

The specific eligibility requirements are as follows:

  • The applicant must own and live in their home for at least six months.

  • The applicant must have a SIN (Social Insurance Number), a Notice of Assessment (NOA), and meet the income requirements.

  • OESP eligibility generally lasts for two years, but applicants aged 65 or older or receiving CPP disability benefits can qualify for a five-year period.

When submitting an application, the following information is required:

  • The account number, address, and account holder's details from the electricity bill.

  • The names and birthdates of all residents in the household.

  • SIN numbers of all tax-filing household members.

Although electricity costs for apartment residents may not always be high, there are many low-income families who may qualify. Eligible residents are encouraged to learn more about the program. For details, please visit http://ontarioelectricitysupport.ca.
